TipESM and OptimESM HE projects will jointly organize a side event at the upcoming COP31, titled “Navigating AMOC uncertainty: From climate science to adaptation from the Nordic perspective”.
📅 Date: Monday, 16 November 2026
🕦 Time: 11:30–12:15
📍 Location: Nordic Pavilion, Blue Zone, COP31
How can societies prepare for a weakening or collapse of the AMOC?
During this session, we will discuss potential regional impacts of AMOC weakening, adaptation needs, and how climate models can support climate risk management and decision-making. Our aim is to identify information needs for adaptation planning under AMOC-related risks and outline recommendations for future climate modelling, leading to actionable climate information for decision-makers.
The discussion will feature:
- Dr. Anna Blomqvist – Senior climate adaptation expert at SMHI, Associate Professor at Linköping University, and Chair of the Nordic Climate Adaptation Program.
- Dr. Chuncheng Guo – Climate scientist at DMI, specializing in climate modelling, polar ocean and climate dynamics.
- Dr. Pasha Karami – Senior climate scientist and research leader at SMHI, specializing in climate modelling, North Atlantic and Arctic climate change, and climate variability and extremes.
- Moderator: Adrian Lema, Director at the National Center for Climate Research, DMI.
Join us for this exciting session – we hope to see you at the Nordic Pavilion!
