We started and largely completed the analysis of the chain of processes and/or feedbacks in the physical/ocean bio-geo-chemistry processes following the tipping event in an Earth System Model. We addressed the impacts of the main tipping elements, Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) and the Subpolar Gyre (SPG), ice sheets, and anoxic events, complementing analysis in earlier projects and analysis carried out in the deliverables D2.1 and D2.2.
In particular, the downstream impact of AMOC tipping will be used by the national institutes to construct complementary climate scenarios that specifically account for the effect of an AMOC collapse. The acidification and coral reef loss scenarios will be disseminated to and used by international bodies targeting marine conservation. The results on Antarctic Ice Sheet tipping will be incorporated into national and international sea-level rise scenarios.
