Climate-driven tipping points in ecological and social systems
Stefanie Heinicke is a researcher specialized in the effects of climate change on biodiversity. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at PIK (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research), where she investigates species’ vulnerability to climate change, including extreme events. Stefanie is part of ISIMIP (The Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project) and one of the contacts for ISIMIP’s sector on terrestrial biodiversity. Her work aims to provide scientific evidence to inform conservation decision-makers, helping species adapt to climate change, and minimizing the negative impacts of climate change mitigation efforts on biodiversity.
In TipESM, Stefanie leads WP6, focussing on tipping points in ecological and social systems. She is developing a new process-based model to examine the conditions under which climate change could lead to tipping in great ape populations.
